What Style Of Homes Are In Central Florida?

Ranch style homes are in Central Florida but not exclusively ranch style homes. Mediterranean style architecture and many other architectural styles are found around lakes and in the more metropolitan areas. Most popular home styles here do have low pitched roofs because we do not have snow and low pitched roofs do better in higher winds.

Common Features With Ranch Style Architecture

Usually a Florida home will have stucco walls and low pitched or even flat roofs. Expect to find sliding glass doors which allow in more natural light in sunny weather which Central Florida is known for. Some older homes have smaller windows as many homeowners opted for them to keep expenses lower. The older homes are easily recognizable because of a lack of high ceilings and an open floor plan.

Mediterranean Architecture & Spanish Style Home

This style house will have a stucco exterior, wrought iron fixtures, high ceilings,, red tile roofs and arched doorways. Some will have steeply pitched roofs but usually only homes with 2 to 3 stories. Still in Mediterranean Style homes you will see the open floor plans and bright colors the purist would expect. Many Central Florida homes are mislabeled as Mediterranean because they just incorporate the more common features.

A Central FL Cracker Home Think front Porches

Yes the Cracker House is a real thing. Probably not what may people think though. This style house has distinctive features like a large front porch, wood siding inside and out, an elevated first floor, clean lines, fireplace and low pitched roofs. This layout makes for a great home to withstand the climate here in the Sunshine State. Maybe not such a great home to own in the coastal areas.
